A Community for Creative Entrepreneurs

WE ARE SO EXCITED!!! The time has come. We are launching an Idealust Facebook community for creative entrepreneurs!

Here’s why…

In the early years of building our business, we didn’t realize that we needed more friends. Don’t get me wrong, we aren’t loners. We’re friendly, I promise! We just didn’t have enough friends doing what we were doing.

We had a lot of 9-to-5er friends, but not a lot of entrepreneur friends. I kept finding myself upset that nobody was asking us about work. Let me tell you a little secret, most non-entrepreneurs can’t wait to get off the clock and work is sometimes the last thing they want to chat about in their free time. That was super hard for us, because, guess what? We love what we do! We put a ton of heart and soul and creativity into our jobs. It’s a huge part of our lives, so naturally, I wanted to talk about it. At least a little bit.

It was around this time that we started having some really rad conversations about life and dream jobs with vendors, friends of friends and clients. We always left feeling super connected, like those people just got us. We left feeling pumped up and ready to rock and roll. And then we realized that we needed more creative entrepreneurs in our life, more dreamers and doers. We started attending local networking and hang-out groups for creatives and those in our industry. Since we’re a husband-wife team, we started looking for other husband-wife entrepreneur teams and contacting the ones we already knew.

And let me tell you, life got really good on the friends front! Now, some of our beach days are spent playing in the waves and laughing about absolutely nothing in particular with some friends; other beach days are spent sprawled out on our towels, trading crazy industry stories and talking business with other friends.

When we first started talking about our plans for Idealust, we knew that forming a community of like-minded creative entrepreneurs was an important piece of the puzzle. When we started our photography business, we attempted this entrepreneur life without it, and it was a rough road. Learn from our mistakes!

You need a entrepreneur friends to:

Encourage you;
Listen to your latest ideas;
Give you their two cents about your strategies;
Have coffee/work dates with;
Inspire you;
Challenge you;
Push you when you need it;
Share your knowledge with.

There are a lot of great ways to get connected with folks pursuing a similar lifestyle and purpose. See what events are going on in your city. Creative communities are booming! Pick two events, buy tickets and GO! Introverts, this includes you. Make a Skype/coffee date with a social media friend you’ve been following/chatting with for a while. See how you can help each other out. Organize a get-together with three creative entrepreneur friends (or people you’d like to be friends with) in your city. Do these things! But also, DO THIS…
